Do not go down without a fight...

Rage, rage against the dying of the light...

The elevator in my apartments is probably big enough for 4 people and 2 dogs, literally. And when I stepped on the elevator last night there were already 2 people, young teenagers, and a dog on it. A bigger dog, maybe not full grown but definitely something along the lines of a retriever. The next floor down brought 1 more person, bigger guy, and 1 more dog. A little terrier like thing that was barking before the elevator door even opened... and as the elevator door closed everything broke loose. Serious fighting, cursing, pulling on leashes, trying to get in the way of the dogs... And so many things seemed surreal to me. First we have little teenagers with a big dog sizing up against a big guy with the smallest dog in the world. Second we have this little dog, probably a serious case of little dog syndrome, trying to attack this so much bigger dog. The little guy was completely outmatched. It would take all of 2 seconds for the bigger dog probably to kill the smaller one no problem. But this dog would not back down, not even for a second... even though this is one occasion where the whole "it's not the size of the dog in the fight..." idea does not work... and here I am stuck right in the middle of all of it...

"A coward is much more exposed to quarrels than a man of spirit."

...I have to respect the small dog... sticking up for itself... because, like wolverine on x-men, it has courage and rushes in to any fight... it's one of the greatest and hardest things you can do in life, to just stand up for yourself even if it means you're gonna get hurt. Something I fail to do all too often on the ice... and it ends up worse because I could stop things before they start.

... but I wonder if that dog didn't come into the elevator ready to scrap if a fight would have happened at all ...play to your strengths little dog... and your strengths are not picking a fight with a dog 3 times your size... if I fight a big meathead in hockey I might prove my courage but I come no closer to winning the fight or the game... It's a dilemma, cause at some point you just have to forget the game and stand up for yourself... but where's that line?
